What happens if the ball hits the ceiling?

Under FIVB rules, a ball that touches the ceiling (or any object above the court) is out — a fault by the team that last touched it.

Some school and recreational leagues allow a ball that touches the ceiling on your own side to stay in play, so check your league’s rules.
